Deciduous, dioecious herb to 0.8 m tall. Subterranean stem a subglobose tuber, light brownish-yellow, proliferous. Leaves trifoliolate, alternate; petiole reddish-green to dark purplish-red. Spathe tube cylindrical, creamy-white to pale yellow; spathe limb lanceolate, 3-4 times longer than tube, pale yellow, ending in a tail to 3 cm long. Spadix appendix distinctly exserted from the spathe tube, lower half entire, whitish to brownish-red, upper half divided into many pale yellow to brownish-red synandrodes; fertile zone staminate or pistillate; staminate flowers loosely arranged; pistillate flowers densely packed, cylindrical. Fruits densely packed, obovoid, green turning bright red when ripe. seeds 2-3 per berry, light brown.

Habitat

On humus-rich soil in moist limestone rock crevices in semi-shaded areas; alt. 500-600 m.
