Climber, 3 – 10 m long with white latex in all vegetative
parts. Stems and branches twining and hanging, terete. Leaves opposite;
petiole terete, slender, slightly canaliculate, 1.8 –
3 cm long, 2 – 2.5 mm in diam., glabrous to sparsely
pubescent; blade coriaceous, elliptic to elliptic-oblong, 9
– 14.5 cm long, 4 – 6.6 cm wide, margins entire, slightly
revolute, acute to rounded at base, bearing 3 – 5 ovateoblong
glands on the adaxial surface; apex acute to short acuminate; upper
surface dark green, puberulent, lower surface paler,
glabrous or sparsely hairy on veins;midrib prominent on
lower surface, lateral veins visible, 4 – 6 on each side. Inflorescence extra-axillary, 5–10-flowered cymes or umbelliform, peduncle terete,
green, glabrous to sparsely pubescent, 1 – 3 cm long, 2
– 3 mm in diam. Pedicel green or greenish brown, 2.7 –
2.8 cm long, 2 – 2.5 mm in diam., pubescent; bracts
minute, attached at the base of the pedicel, triangular,
greenish brown, pubescent, acute at apex. Calyx lobes
quincuncial, ovate-triangular, 2.5 – 3 mm long, 2.4 –
3 mm wide, greenish brown, pubescent, acute to obtuse
at apex, bearing an ovate-oblong gland inside each lobe
sinus, 0.10 – 0.13 mm long, 0.05 – 0.06 mm wide. Corolla
globose, yellow to yellowish brown, 1.4 – 1.6 cmlong, 1.5
– 1.9 cm in diam., corolla tube inflated at the middle,
outer surface with dense curled hairs, inner surface with
dense, long, fleshy glandular hairs; corolla lobes short,
valvate in bud, not spreading at anthesis, 1.5 – 2 mm
thick, ovate-triangular, 3.3 – 3.5 mm long, 3.8 – 4.1 mm
wide, acute at apex, slightly recurved. Gynostegium sessile,
cupular in outline, 4 – 5 mm long, 7 – 8 mm in diam.
Staminal corona lobes 5, uniseriate, inserted at the bases of
the stamens, erect, connate at the base, fleshy, yellow,
yellowish purple to purple, spatulate, 5 – 6.4 mm long,
4.1 – 4.3 mm wide, apex lobed, with 6 – 8 finger-like
fringes, tips of fringes covered with white hairs, middle
part with 4 – 5 finger-like fringes, tips of fringes covered
with white hairs; basal part dark purple, thick and slightly
raised. Pollinaria 5, erect; pollinium broadly ovoid,
yellow, 0.18 – 0.19 mm long, 0.16 – 0.17 mm wide,
germination crest sub-apical; translator arms hyaline,
0.06 – 0.07 mm long, 0.05 – 0.06 mm wide; corpusculum
narrowly oblong, reddish brown, 0.14 – 0.16 mm long,
0.04 – 0.05 mm wide. Carpels ovoid, glabrous, 2.5 –3mm
long, 1 – 1.3 mm in diam.; style-head pentagonal. Follicles
2, diverging, linear-oblong in outline, terete, green, 16.5
– 17 cm long, 0.8 – 0.9 cm in diam.

Habitat

grows on loam soil in semi-shady areas of the edge of evergreen forest at 780 – 1100 m a.s.l.
