Perennial grass. Leaf sheaths loose, pubescent. Ligule membranous with ciliate margins. Blades pubescent on both surfaces, apex acute. Inflorescences a compound racemose. Racemes solitary, subterete, terminal. Spikelets in pairs. Sessile spikelets slightly twice as long as the rhachis nodes. Lower glume triangular, indurate, smooth, margins folded, pubescent on the back, apex with 2 narrow wings. Upper glume ovate or boat-shaped, keeled on the upper and pilose along keel. Pedicelled spikelets oblong, c. 1 mm long, pubescent, reduced to 2 asymmetrical glumes, keeled along the margins. Pedicels oblong or ribbon-like, pubescent.

Common in paddy fields; alt. 100 m.
